Yesturday I took a day trip to the Pinarello Shop in Treviso.
My day started early as I flew from Pau to Lyon to Venice, then Venice to Paris to Pau – it’s great to be able to experience a different country in a day and end up back at home…
I’ve always wanted to visit “The Holy Grail” of bike manufacturers (in my opinion) and Pinarello is the best (opinion again!).
I met the founder, Giovanni Pinarello at the shop, he showed me some old photos and was very proud of his jersey on the wall (he didn’t speak a word of English and my Italian is very limited, and I mean limited…).
Giovanni Pinarello , the eighth of twelve brothers, was born in 1922. Pinarello can be traced back to the beginning of WW II. This is when, at the age of fifteen, he began making bicycles. He won over over sixty titles as an amateur and was part of the professional cycling world until 1953. His bicycles have sponsored professional teams since 1960 and continue to push the envelope with their design and materials used. His smile was contagious and we had fun ‘comunicating’ – it was a pleasure to meet someone with such a history.
I arrived home tired (with a new bike frame) but it was well worth the journey…
Italy For The Day… gotta love Europe
