My Season Starts...

Winter arrived in a big way at Chez Passet – the locals said it was the coldest they’ve seen since 1985 (someone should have shown them how to insulate a home back in the day), we’ve been busy with frozen pipes and even heard of someone who’s toilet had completely frozen solid!!!

The weather changed last week, just in time for my first CycloSportive of the season – “A Travers les Vignobles de Plaimont”. Located 45mins north of Chez Passet in the Madiran Wine region. The day started out in the rain and wind and finished in the wind so it was what I call a ‘Character Building” ride. The pace was very fast from the start (first CycloSportive of the season so everyone was keen to show their stuff – not me!) and then the wind split the groups up and it was then every man/women for themselves. They did give us a bottle of wine at the finish so all was not lost and the locals were very hospitable…

The cycle clubs are now gearing up for the season, lots of riders are out trying to make up for the lost weeks when the roads were icy and all you could do was ride indoors.

Spring seems to have arrived and I hope to start venturing into the rolling hills to get myself ready for the opening of the “Cols”. Looking at a few CycloSportives in Spain this spring so that could be a fun time to be had…

P.s The horse in the photo was looking for a room for the night but we were full… (scared the hell out of me when I opened the curtains)
