My Winter Musings...

The winter here in the Pyrenees, much like the weather in the UK, has been a wet one for the past 2 weeks. Although we maybe a bit luckier, the sun has made an appearance and allowed us to eat lunch outside which is a bonus at this time of year.

Winter riding has been sporadic, as expected, and stopped for a few days when the snow came leaving many icy and snow-covered corners. It’s all disappeared now and apart from the rain and some flooded areas the riding continues to be spectacular. There’s lots of snow in the high mountains, which makes for a nice backdrop when I’m out and about...

This year I’ve hooked up with a few of the guys from my bike club and have started to train towards the Sportives that I’ve entered – the two main ones being Paris-Roubaix (http://www.sport.be/parisroubaix/2014/eng/) and L’Etape du Tour (http://www.letapedutour.com/ET1/us/the-route.html). My Saturday rides take almost 5 hours and have me doing sprint intervals on flats and also on hill climbs. Pretty hard stuff but great training and a lot of fun when we can get out.

As time is moving towards Spring and days are (slowly) getting longer our thoughts have moved towards the start of our 5th season here at CP. It’s hard to believe that we’ve been here for 4 years already.

Apart from the ongoing work in our guest rooms we’ve been dodging the rain by trying to work outside. We’re building a new terrace that will have a huge table for everyone to eat dinner on. It’s taken a while but the terrace is done and we’re working on a 12ft table. I’m also working on a design for the first CP cycling jerseys, which I’m quite excited about, so watch this space and let me know if you’re interested…

Di’s been sidelined with a back injury for the last 4 months (she had been running a lot) but is making progress back to full fitness (French Physio is a little different). She has been out on her bike using “that sodding hill” as her workout - always kills her and never shy of a few choice words when she comes back!

I always enjoy the choice words!
